Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Children's and Young People's Participation Manager on behalf of Luton Borough Council within their Children and Learning department.

Main purpose of position:

To improve the lives and outcomes of children and young people in and from care or subject to child protection or child in need plans by running and developing our children and young people's participation service.

As a Children's and Young People's Participation Manager will be responsible to:

• Take a lead to implement and monitor the Children and Young People's Action Plan and report progress to the Looked After Children's Multi-Agency Group and Corporate Parenting Partnership Board.
• To recruit looked-after young people to participate in the work of Luton Borough Council and ensure the participation of young people in the Children and Young People's panel.
• Design a range of techniques and approaches to develop and maximise children's and young people's participation in Luton.
• Take responsibility for their own development and that of the apprentice providing specific supervision, coaching and mentoring of the apprentice.
• To develop and maintain our website for children and young people in care and support looked-after young people to contribute to this, including devising and analysing online surveys and polls about life in care.

Skills and Experience

• In depth experience of working with and developing inclusive participation opportunities for children and young people (including traditionally excluded groups).
• Able to communicate effectively (using a range of media i.e. verbal, written, web etc) at all levels across a multi-agency setting - including demonstrable presentation skills.
• Able to persuade and influence others to directly support the participation of children and young people.
• Able to communicate and build effective relationships with children and young people, staff, public and other professionals.
• Proven ability to formulate policies and procedures and processes in order to effectively monitor and control systems.
• Able to demonstrate integration of equality and diversity into own practice and service delivery.

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for Disclosure and Barring Service checks to be undertaken. Therefore, it is essential in making your application you disclose whether you have any convictions, bind overs or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders 1974 (Exemptions) (Amendments) Order 1986.
